About

In the vast spiritual landscape of Sanatana Dharma, Lord Sri Mahavishnu is revered as the Supreme Being — the protector and sustainer of the universe. Just as the oceans embrace the Indian subcontinent, the devotion to Lord Vishnu flows endlessly across the land, enriching every corner with divine presence.

From the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas to the southern shores of Kanyakumari, the Lord manifests in numerous sacred forms and postures, each deeply rooted in spiritual lore and local tradition. These sacred manifestations are found in holy temples known as Sthalams.

Among these countless sacred sites, there are 108 special temples collectively known as the Divya Desams — the most revered shrines of Lord Vishnu. These are not merely architectural marvels, but spiritual powerhouses sanctified by the devotional hymns of the Alwars, the great saint-poets who are considered divine manifestations of Vishnu himself.

The Alwars composed Mangalasasanam — devotional hymns and praises — upon having direct vision (darshan) of the Lord in these temples. Through their heartfelt verses, they captured the divine pastimes (lilas) of Lord Vishnu, expressing their unconditional love and surrender.

These 108 Divya Desams are celebrated not only for their divine presence but also for the unique legends, rich history, and spiritual experiences they offer to devotees. Pilgrimage to these sacred shrines is considered highly auspicious and a path to deep spiritual awakening in Vaishnavism.
