Ahobilam Yatra

My Journey as Yatra Director – Ahobilam Yatra with 80 Devotees By the divine grace of the Lord and the blessings of my Guru and the Vaishnavas, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve as the Yatra Director for our recent pilgrimage to Ahobilam — the sacred abode of Lord Narasimha. This yatra was joined by 80 enthusiastic devotees, each carrying a heart full of devotion and a spirit ready for service.Ahobilam, surrounded by the Nallamala Hills in Andhra Pradesh, is believed to be the very place where Lord Narasimha manifested to

protect His devotee Prahlada and vanquish the demon Hiranyakashipu. The sacred site is home to the Nava Narasimha temples, each representing a unique form and mood of the Lord. What unfolded over these days was far more than a travel itinerary. It was a spiritual adventure — a journey through forests, hills, and ancient temples that became, in essence, a journey within.

Serving the Yatra

Taking responsibility for coordinating the itinerary, managing logistics, and ensuring everyone’s comfort was a service I accepted with humility. This included arranging transport between temples, ensuring prasadam was served on time, and keeping the group together through every stage of the journey.

  1. From the first rays of dawn during mangala darshan, where the cool morning breeze carried the soft sounds of bells and conch shells, to the challenging treks through dense forests, every moment was a test of both organization and surrender.

  2. The paths that led us to the Nava Narasimha temples were filled with scenic beauty — flowing streams, rugged stone steps, and panoramic views of the surrounding hills. As devotees chanted the holy names, sang kirtans, and encouraged one another, I could feel the invisible thread of devotion binding us together.

Moments that Touched the Heart

The most memorable aspect of the journey wasn’t just the darshan of each of the nine forms of Lord Narasimha — from the merciful Maalola Narasimha to the fierce Jwala Narasimha — but also the heartfelt moments in between:
The joyful kirtans that echoed in the hills, making the entire forest seem alive with devotion.

  1. The sharing of simple yet soul-satisfying prasadam, where even a small portion felt abundant when shared in the Lord’s name.

  2. The warmth of association, as devotees walked side by side, helping each other up steep climbs and through rocky paths, often offering water or a hand of support without hesitation.

  3. These moments reminded me that a yatra is not simply about visiting holy places; it is about transforming hearts.

Lessons from the Journey

I realized that leading a yatra means guiding two journeys simultaneously — the outer journey of travel and logistics, and the inner journey of spiritual growth. The outer journey required constant planning, coordination, and attention to the needs of each devotee. The inner journey required patience, compassion, and the ability to keep the group’s focus on service and devotion.

  1. Every challenge we faced — from unpredictable weather and slippery forest trails to long treks between temples — became lighter when carried together in the spirit of service. When the mind was fixed on pleasing the Lord, even fatigue and discomfort turned into opportunities for offering.

Returning with Gratitude

By the time we returned, I carried back not just memories, but renewed gratitude for the opportunity to serve. The sight of 80 devotees moving together like one family, bound by the holy name and service to the Lord, is something I will cherish forever.

I came away with a deeper conviction that when we come together in the Lord’s service, every difficulty transforms into a joyful offering.

Hare Krishna!
May the mercy of Lord Narasimha and the blessings of the Vaishnavas continue to inspire us to walk together on this eternal path of devotion.

Sacred Pilgrimage. Soulful Experience.
